Abstract
The interaction of individuals, social capital and standards processes has been analyzed through statistical perspectives. Looking at these conclusions in the specific case of the IEEE POSIX(UNIX) standards effort provides both confirmation for some of these conclusions, but also raises new questions and insights for consideration by formal methods. Consideration is given to the impact of extended term collaborative problem solving on the development and expenditure of social capital. Since IEEE standards are ‘individual’ participants, not firms, this provides an interesting divergence from some of the prior work.
