Abstract
As standards evolve, a push and pull always occurs between those who move quickly to the new version and those who stay with the old. With more than two versions, things get complicated, interoperability becomes more difficult, and the balance between interoperating and supporting new features gets more delicate. Indeed, sometimes newer versions of standards are developed specifically to fix interoperability issues.
