Abstract
GNU Project was launched in 1983 to develop a complete Unix-like operating system called the GNU system, which is "free software." Free software terms permit the user to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. The GNU Project's primary sponsor is the Free Software Foundation (FSF), whose stated mission is to preserve, protect and promote the freedom to use, study, copy, modify, and redistribute computer software, and to defend the rights of Free Software users.
