Abstract
Lawmakers, government and business executives, and citizens alike have for some time sought more responsive and effective government operations, and have looked to technology to help achieve these goals. With the increasing use and success of e-business in the private sector, Congress and the Executive branch - in both the current and previous administrations - have encouraged the application of this experience and tool set to the work of Federal agencies. This paper discusses the important role that open e-business standards can play in the current administration's e-government initiatives, and offers an approach to apply these standards directly to the current initiatives.
