Abstract
Technology companies know they gain many competitive benefits when they help develop standards. The same is true for the individuals who actually do the work. Many of the thousands of people who help create software, Web, electronic, telecommunication, computer and other standards say their participation brings solid professional growth. What seems to provide the most value is learning the standards process, as well as the chance to share and work closely with peers from other organizations and countries.
